WordPress 5.9 and Full Site Editing (FSE) coming soon

With the new year, WordPress is gearing up to release the 2022 update to the opensource platform with a new feature highlight; Full Site Editing or FSE

Slated now for release on 25 January, this update with evolve the Gutenberg interface and tools site wide. “Due to delays with one of the the most anticipated feature updates, Full Site Editing, it was decided to wait until after the identified issues can be resolved and tested for the release. ” With this new feature set, WP would align more into the same ease of use and design category as the more expensive but popular site-building platforms of SquarSpace, Wix, and Weebly. The upcoming WP update will will opening avenues for: 

– Templates for full-page layouts, including site header, content, and footer areas.

– A template editor for creating and editing post- and page templates.

– Blocks for site building, such as site title and site logo.

– A theme configuration file with defaults for global styles.

– Template parts, which are structural blocks that you can combine into templates.

– An advanced site editor where you can create, preview and edit templates.

– A global styles interface for selecting site wide styles for blocks.

Although the release of a new version is exciting, it can be expected that it won’t be seen in CampusPress still for some time, as things roll out slower due to the multi-site configuration of the platform.
