What is the AI Chat tool available at WWU?

Your friendly neighborhood instructional designer from TLT at WWU is back, this time diving into some of the most common questions we get about AI tools available here at WWU.

Common Questions

We’re seeing more interest in how AI can support students, staff, and faculty, so I’m here to give you the lowdown on what’s accessible, how it can be used, and a bit about why it might matter to you.

If you want a TL;DR | at WWU we have access to the browser-based Microsoft Co-Pilot though O365 for students, staff, and faculty.

Resources

First, two resources that can help guide you on AI usage: the Academic Uses for AI for Students page and an AI FAQ guide designed for faculty and staff. Both of these pages offer overviews of various AI tools and answer key questions about using AI responsibly and effectively. Each tool has unique strengths, and we provide a side-by-side comparison, outlining free features and some of their limitations.

In this video we are highlighting Microsoft’s Copilot, which is available for free to anyone with a WWU login. Copilot offers capabilities similar to ChatGPT, along with the ability to generate images via DALL-E 3. Whether you’re on a PC, Mac, or mobile device, you can access Copilot’s AI-driven functionalities with ease. This tool can assist you with anything from brainstorming lesson plans to creating visual assets like workshop logos or promotional materials—perfect if you need a quick design and aren’t a Photoshop or Illustrator wiz.

As always, AI can be a great helper, but it’s essential to review its output for accuracy.
