My project is called Bleached Beach. I decided to change the name of the piece from the original plan and also the concept because I thought it was too specific. Originally, I wanted to talk about the coral reefs, how important they are to the Earth and how we are causing them to die out. Instead, I decided to focus more on the ocean in general and create a piece targeted towards the garbage problems in our ocean. Our ocean has approximately 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean with about 270,000 tons of it floating upon the surface. So, my main focus of my piece was to discuss the problem of how polluted the ocean is with debris from garbage. My piece shows a beach covered in trash and debris somewhat highlighted from the rest of the piece. Three images of myself crouching in a trash can are seen through the piece with different expressions, two seeming worried, lost and afraid, and one seemingly looking ominous and dangerous in the background. Myself represents ocean life and the trash can represents the massive amounts of trash are poured into the ocean and trapping the wildlife around it.
