It is the stuff of nightmares: a lake is stained
red with blood of slaughtered pigs which is attracting hundreds of man-eating crocodiles
who prowl a nearby neighbourhood and family kill dogs.
Those who live along the shore next to the lagoon can do little but watch as the crocodiles snatch their treasured livestock and pets – and pray their
children won’t be next.
The Lake of Blood, as the locals call it, has attracted 300 deadly crocodiles since a nearby slaughterhouse began dumping pigs’ blood and offal into the water.
Polluted: Nicknamed ‘The Lake of Blood’ this lagoon is turned red by pigs’ blood and offal from pigs killed at a nearby slaughterhouse.
It has attracted 300 man-eating crocodiles to the lake
Useful: The lake is also attracting poachers to the area who kill the crocodiles and sell them to exotic animal traffickers for £7 a centimetre – £500 per crocodile
Nursery: The lake has become a magnet for five-metre long crocodiles who prowl the nearby neighbourhood and eat livestock and pets
Terror: Lauren Villaney’s pet dog Pepper was killed last year.
‘There was nothing I could do, I just had to watch in horror through a hole in my wall,’ she told MailOnline

It is here in Chetumal, 200 miles south of Cancun on Mexico’s
Caribbean Coast, the reptiles raise their young,
which swim in the murky waters as the older, larger predators bathe in the Central
American sunshine.
It is at night that the residents fear the
crocodiles the most. That’s when they pick off their chickens and, worse, pet dogs.
And there is nothing anyone can do, should a crocodile come within striking distance of
a dog.
Dani Hernandez lives in constant fear for her children’s lives;
malaria-ridden mosquitos swarm her slum shack
night and day, which sits not 50 yards from the blood-filled lake.
‘I’m kept awake at night by the biggest males roaring and fighting just metres from
my door,’ Ms Hernandez, mother to Gael, four, and Brian, seven months, told MailOnline.
‘It’s terrifying, because there’s no way my
tiny shack could stand up to a five metre monster if
it wanted to come in.’
Frightened: Dani Hernandez lives in fear of her children being caught
by one of the crocodiles. ‘There’s no way my tiny shack could stand up
to a five metre monster if it wanted to come
in,’ she told MailOnline
Stuck: The families who live near the lake, and the slaughterhouse, pictured, which is 500 metres from the border with Belize, have no choice but stay there as they
are too impoverished to move
Nightmares: The crocodiles, which can be seen swimming in the festering
water, hunt at night. This also attrats hunters who come to kill
the crocodiles
Insects: The water has also attracted thousands of disease carrying mosquitoes to the area
Lauren Villaney’s pet dog Pepper was killed last year.
‘There was nothing I could do, I just had to watch in horror through a hole in my wall,’ she told MailOnline.
‘Since that happened I’ve built a large fence around the
shack, but that doesn’t stop them from prowling around the yard at
all hours.’
But another resident, fed up losing his loyal companions to
the crocodile’s jaws, has taken a more proactive approach.
The man, who declined to be named, said: ‘The last time they ate my
dog I took a shotgun down to the lakeside and blasted the
larger adults while they sat basking in the sun in the
reeds.
‘You have to shoot a crocodile directly in the brain first time – otherwise they simply don’t
die.
‘Even if you get a good shot in you can expect to be chased
by the others. But eventually the others reptiles
smell blood and cannibalise the dead crocodile.’
But they are far from the only danger the community faces.
Fear: Residents are frightened the crocodiles could eat their children next.
Lauren added: ‘I’ve built a large fence around the shack, but that doesn’t stop them from prowling around the yard at all hours.’
Business: As well as fears over the animals killing their pets and livestock, residents have to put up with hunters coming to the area
Profit: It is a lucrative business as hunters catch the dangerous crocodiles, which are worth hundreds of pounds on the black market, prized for the leather their skin creates
Trapped: Lauren says people ask why she lives so close to
the crocodiles, but she says: ‘We simply do
what we can when there’s no other option. A human being can get used to living alongside anything’
In addition to the crocodiles, Lauren says that boa constrictor snakes,
which are native to the Western Caribbean, often hunt
both her and her animals.
‘The snakes are the most terrifying because they are enormous and have no fear,’ she told MailOnline.
MAYAN LEGEND: HOW THE CROCODILE LOST ITS TONGUE
One of the oldest of the Mayan deities, the Crocodile
god Sobek once had a tongue with which it spoke to the other animals and offered them counsel.
One day Xolotl the Dog, the Mayan god of death and trickery, came to the crocodile and complained of its
terrible thirst.
‘Dear crocodile’, said the dog, ‘I cannot drink water for I have no tongue in my mouth, and I will surely die of thirst if you do not help
me.
‘Please lend me yours for a short while that I
may satisfying my thirst’.
The crocodile agreed, on the condition that the following day the two would meet in the midday shade of sacred Ceiba tree to
return the crocodile’s tongue.
The dog departed with a tongue in its mouth and overjoyed at the ability to drink freely from any
lake or river, never arrived the next day to return it.
Robbed of its tongue and left without speech, the crocodile was
banished to the hellish swamps between the sea and the land, and
to this day will attack any dog that comes close as revenge for the trick played
upon it.

‘If a crocodile sees a human it will generally move away, but a boa constrictor will just keep silently moving towards
you.’
Meanwhile, swarms of mosquitoes envelop any thin-skinned creature within a 500-metre radius of the lake’s edge
in a cloud of angry black specks, inflicting bites which
last for weeks – threatening the local residents at every moment with dengue
fever, malaria and zika virus.
‘My baby Brian has been made very sick
by the constant mosquitoes,’ says Dani, pointing out the
myriad insect bites across the little boy’s face and
arms.
‘Malaria is a terrible disease, and sooner or
later we all get it living here.’
‘A lot of my friends ask me why I don’t move away, but
it’s not that simple,’ Lauren admitted, holding one of her hens under her arm
beside the rancid lake.
‘This is a slum, we simply arrive and build our houses without official permission. The only reason we have been left alone by
the government is because no one else wants the land.
‘We simply do what we can when there’s no
other option. A human being can get used to living alongside anything.’
And there are other people who can see the profit in what
the Lake of Blood has to offer.
The crocodiles’ leather is worth £7 a centimetre once properly cured – £500 per crocodile.
One Chetumal-based animal trafficker, El Cuerno,
told MailOnline that the start of the mating season in February
is the best time to poach live crocodiles from the lake.
Infection: Dani’s baby Brian, pictured with his
four-year-old brother Gael, is covered in bites from
mosquitoes. ‘Sooner or later everyone gets malaria,’ Dani said
Danger: ‘A lot of my friends ask me why I don’t move away, but it’s not that simple,’ Lauren admitted, holding one of her hens
under her arm beside the rancid lake.
Uninhabitable: ‘The only reason we have been left alone by the government is because
no one else wants the land,’ she acknowledged. Pictured:
A raided crocodile egg nest
‘The start of the mating season is when the male crocodiles are at their fattest and most powerful,’ he told MailOnline.
‘The ideal animal is around five years old and beginning
to fight for territory.
‘A skin is worth less if it’s covered in scars and battle wounds so
it’s important to get the animal when it is reaching adulthood, but before it has started battling for dominance.’
The municipal slaughterhouse staff declined to comment on the environmental damage caused by their improper disposal of biological waste when approached
by MailOnline.

Septic diving peeping Tom discovered inside Tulsa park toilet
by 7-year-old girl
The 52-year-old man claimed he was dumped there by a girlfriend named Angel after she hit him over the head with
a tire iron and took him to the park in a 1972 Chevy Monte Carlo
Once fished out, he had to be hosed off by the fire department
This is not the first time he’s been arrested

An Oklahoma man was arrested after being found in a septic tank in a park outhouse.
Kenneth Enslow, 52, was discovered by a 7-year-old girl and her mother at about
5pm Sunday when the two went to use the bathroom at a
park near Tulsa, OK, heard coughing and saw him looking up at them, according to officials.
The two fled the bathroom and called the authorities, who ended
up having to fish the peeping Tom out.
Disgusting: Kenneth Enslow, 52, was discovered inside a Tulsa, OK park toilet looking up at unsuspecting park goers while they did their business
By the time officials arrived, Enslow was ‘standing with his head and shoulders out
of the hole… covered in feces,’ according to an arrest report filed by the Tulsa
County Sheriff’s office.
The fire department helped the unemployed degenerate out of the cesspool using rope
and hosed him off, literally, with the fire hose, the report
said.
‘They extracted him with rope and sprayed
him off with the hose on the fire truck,’ Stuart Meyer told KOTV, ‘he was covered in defecation and looked like he had been down there for quite some time.’
Enslow first claimed that he was hit over the head with a
tire iron, tossed in the back of a 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and dumped there by his girlfriend
Angel, according to the report. Enslow claimed he
did not ask for help because he was unconscious.
After being taken to a local hospital as a precaution, even after officers failed to find injuries consistent with assault from a tire iron, the
pervert later admitted he made the story up, according to KJRH.
Tempting: Enslow couldn’t resist the urge to hop
into the septic tank below the outhouse in a Tulsa park
Relaxing: The park is a haven for locals looking to fish and hike, not to be
fished out of the latrine
Explaining that Enslow is not a small man, Meyer said that
Enslow ‘had to work to get into that hole… there were claims he was put
in that hole by somebody else, I don’t think that happened.’
The arresting officer did observe ‘several scratches on [Enslow’s] head, but they were old and had scabbed over,’ the report states.
The deviant also had scratches on his arms ‘from the rough edges
of the concrete slab.’
White Water Park is a lake situated on a dam just
west of Tulsa, OK. It is a popular local fishing and hiking area.
Enslow was taken from the hospital to a local jail and charged with
being a Peeping Tom, a misdemeanour, a Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson told Mail Online.
He is also being held on warrants dating back to 1998 for embezzlement and illegal
dumping in Okmulgee County, a spokesperson from that county’s sheriff’s office told
Mail Online.
Peaceful: The park usually offers residents a respite from the stresses of everyday life
This is not Enslow’s first run-in with the
fuzz, he has also been arrested for public intoxication and driving under suspension, arrest records show, according to KOTV.
Despite the septic swimmer being locked up for now, Meyer isn’t taking any
chances.
‘To think that there’s somebody down in the bottom watching you
is plumb scary,’ Meyer told KOTV, ‘we’ll take a flashlight and look below first, I don’t want to see
anybody scuba diving in the toilet.’
A Danish student who was dubbed a ‘real-life Cinderella’ after leaving one of her golden stilettos
at the future king’s birthday bash has found her very own ‘Prince Charming’.
Anne-Sofie Tornso Olesen left one of her high heels at the end of Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th birthday party in October last year.
Unlike in the fairy tale, Anne-Sofie’s missing shoe was returned not
by the Prince but by a postman, after a picture of the heel
was posted by the royal family on social media.
However, Anne-Sofie has since found love in 20-year-old Nikolas
Kolding, who works at Tivoli Gardens amusement park
in the Danish capital Copenhagen.
‘We met in Tivoli,’ she said. ‘I was out with my friend.
I thought he looked cute, so I went up to him and asked for
his socials.
‘He took me on the most adorable date a few days later’ –
a picnic in the forest.
The 19-year-old actress added: ‘To me, he is like royalty.’

Prince
The Danish student has now found her own Prince Charming in Nikolas Kolding who works at Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen
Anne-Sofie’s golden high heel was returned to her
after the royal family published an Instagram photo
of the shoe found at Christiansborg Palace in October last year
Actress Anne-Sofie (pictured left), joked leaving the shoe at the party ‘was meant to be a fairytale
ending à la Cinderella.’ Pictured right: Prince Christian
Anne-Sofie was invited to Prince Christian’s party to represent the area where she lives outside the Danish capital, having
won the invitation in a tombola.
She sported a sheer black dress at the reception and even greeted
Denmark’s then Queen Margrethe II, her son, Crown Prince Frederik and his son Prince Christian, who were all oblivious to her ‘funny’ attempt to steal
the show.
The actress said at the time: ‘I thought it was a bit funny myself,
and I talked to my family and friends about it before,
and they agreed that I should do it. It’s a chance you won’t get again.
‘It’s not because I think that now I’m going to marry him, but I
kind of hoped that someone would think it was funny, and then it also creates attention for the royal house.’
The student did speak to the Prince at his celebration, although she couldn’t remember the
exact conversation.
‘I don’t really remember what I asked about, because I was so confused,
but I think it had something to do with what
he thought about the whole thing – and about having invited
all those people into the castle,’ she said.
New NatWest systems fault meant hundreds of thousands of Apple iPhone and iPad users were unable to use banking app

Another IT glitch at NatWest meant that hundreds of thousands of customers could not access their banking app via Apple iPhone and iPad devices this
morning.
NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland customers took to Twitter to express their irritation – the lender has
more than 1million users of the app, though a spokesman has
now confirmed – as of midday – the problem has been fixed.
John A tweeted to the @NatWest_Help feed: ‘I’ve been trying to get onto app all day now with no joy??
(iTunes app)’.

Sorry: NatWest apologised on Twitter to users who are still
struggling to access the app – customers are meant to be able to send money to anyone with a Visa card via its app
‘Really?!?! #natwest really really loosing my patience!!
Can’t check my balance now!!’ wrote customer Emma Pudsey.
Sam Coleman tweeted: ‘Natwest helpful banking????
Really!!!! Then why can’t I log on #natwest #angry.’
The bank apologised to users saying: ‘The Android app is working
now, and we’re working on the others urgently.’
A spokesman told This is Money: ‘All our mobile banking applications are now running normally.
We apologise again for the inconvenience caused to our customers.’

Chaos at cash machines: Computer fault halts RBS withdrawals…while boss picks up
£700k bonus
Smartphone app means NatWest and RBS customers can now text cash to friends and family – without bank details
A Which? spokesperson commented: ‘Consumers and businesses
alike rely on mobile banking services to access their accounts
and consumers will rightly want to be assured that their money is accessible and
safe at all times.
‘The problems caused by the RBS mobile banking glitch will raise
wider questions about how robust and up to date banks’ IT systems
are.’
This latest IT problem followed weeks after the
banking group apologised to customers for its second computer hitch in a year.
A hardware fault left RBS Group customers blocked from using cashpoints for several hours in early March,
while online and telephone banking services were also disrupted.
RBS Group said previously that the computer fault,
which affected RBS, NatWest and Ulster Bank customers, was unrelated to
a huge IT meltdown it had last summer which left customers
unable to use their accounts properly and cost the group £175million to put right.
Last October, NatWest also had to suspend a feature on its mobile phone app called
GetCash, after the service was subject to a spate of
‘phishing’ attacks by fraudsters.
NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland customers are able to send money to other people via their mobile phones after the lender launched a new mobile cash transfer service earlier this month, using the smartphone app.
It means that as well as checking their own details and transferring cash between their own accounts,
they can use their phones or tablets to make a payment of up to £100 to anyone with a
Visa card by entering a mobile number.
It is available for customers to download as an upgrade to the existing
mobile banking app for Android, iPhone and BlackBerry, with an enhanced version of the Windows phone app due to be released soon.

Welcome to Ice City: Russia plans to build frozen community 1,000 miles from North Pole…

Russia is to build an ultra-modern city on a frozen island deep inside the Arctic Circle – in the Kremlin’s latest move to back its claim to vast oil and gas reserves under the polar ice cap.
Named Umka, after a popular Soviet polar bear cub cartoon hero, the initial 5,000 residents will live under a vast dome to protect themselves from temperatures sinking
below minus 30C in winter.
‘This city will be of strategic importance as Russia’s
northern outpost,’ said architect Valery Rzhevskiy
who has shown its modernistic designs to an approving Vladimir Putin.
Extraordinary: The city will cost up to £4 billion and be built on the remote island of Kotelniy, in the Novosibirsk archipelago,
some 1,000 miles from the North Pole
Vast: The Umka designs are based on the International
Space Station but in comparison is much larger – one mile long
and 800 yards wide
Sources say it is likely to house soldiers,
border guards and secret service officers, as well as scientists and explorers,
as Moscow gets serious about claiming Arctic mineral
riches.
All will enjoy a luxury lifestyle in the cocoon with its own specially
regulated temperate climate – including many facilities
to make inhabitants of other cities envious.
‘We aim to have scientific laboratories, houses, but also parks with attractions, an Aqua complex, hotels and a cathedral.
Naturally there will be schools, kindergartens, recreation zones, a hospital, and
sport facilities are planned, too,’ said Rzhevskiy.

Love in a cold climate: Ferocious, bloody battles and…

‘We want people who will be living and working here not to realise they are
in some closed space with an aggressive Arctic climate outside.’
The extraordinary venture – nicknamed ‘wonder city’ – will be built at a cost of up to £4 billion on the
remote island of Kotelniy, in the Novosibirsk archipelago , some 1,000
miles from the North Pole, closer than any other Russian city.
Strong winds make it one of the most inhospitable places on the planet, and even in summer it
barely climbs over freezing point.
Bleak: Strong winds make the area one of the most inhospitable places on the planet,
and even in summer it barely climbs over freezing point
The Umka designs are based on the International
Space Station, but it is vast by comparison – just short
of one mile long and 800 yards wide.
‘So far it’s the only project in the world with
an artificial climate and integral life support – just like on the
space station. Not only is it a new word in architecture, but in human living
too. We have used aero and space technologies while creating it.’

– Valery Rzhevskiy, architect
Electricity will be supplied by a floating nuclear power station.
Food wise, it will be totally self-sufficient with fish and poultry farms, greenhouses, a wheat processing factory and bakeries.
‘There will not be any rubbish at all, as the city will have two factories converting all kinds into ashes.’
It will house workers for local mines and oil platforms which should
pay the costs of the development, it is claimed.
‘This project is designed to work on any surface, even on the Moon if needed,’ said Rzhevskiy, one of Russia’s top
architects.
The ice city plans – currently with no fixed
timetable for opening – comes as all countries with territory touching Arctic waters are gearing
up to make competing demands to the United Nations over underwater mineral exploitation rights.
Western countries were stung when in 2007 Russian polar explorer Artur
Chilingarov placed his country’s flag in the Arctic seabed in 2007.
‘We must prove the north pole is an extension of the
Russian land mass,’ he said at the time.
A Canadian think tank this year even warned that ‘an arms
race maybe beginning’, expressing concerns at the risk of conflict.
The U.S., Canada, Norway and Russia have all boosted their naval presence in Arctic waters amid warnings of a Cold War that could literally be
cold – except perhaps at Umka.
For someone who displayed such moral fortitude in voting to take Britain out of the EU,
how sad that Sir Jim Ratcliffe feels no sense of patriotic duty when it comes to paying
taxes in this country.
Sir Jim, Britain’s richest man with a £21billion fortune to his name, may be known in business circles for shying
away from the public gaze and eschewing the sort of stunts that turned fellow business magnates Lord Sugar and Sir Richard Branson into household names.
But the 65-year-old must have known how damaging it
would be to flee to Monaco at the height of the Brexit negotiations.
Whatever his true reasons for leaving, his move
will be seized on by Remainers as a symbolic act of desertion.
Sir Jim, Britain’s richest man with a £21billion fortune to his name, is said to be taking his money to Monaco – a
known tax haven
Sir Jim has declined to comment – a spokesman for
his company said only that it was a ‘personal
matter’
What a stark contrast with Peter Hargreaves, another high-profile billionaire supporter of Brexit within the business community.
The founder of the financial giant Hargreaves-Lansdowne has always been proud of paying his taxes here, and this
week showed his belief in Britain by saying he would bet
his entire fortune that opting for a no-deal Brexit would be this country’s best option.
Although Sir Jim has declined to comment – a spokesman for his company said only that it was
a ‘personal matter’ – his choice of destination speaks volumes.

Born to a joiner and office worker in 1952 in Failsworth, on the outskirts of Manchester, Ratcliffe spent the first three years of his life in a council house.
He went on to attend Beverley Grammar School in East Riding, after the family moved
to Yorkshire.
In the Seventies, he accepted a place at the University of Birmingham, where he studied chemical engineering. That degree – in those days paid
for entirely by the taxpayer, of course – would be his ticket to vast riches.
By 1992, Ratcliffe had remortgaged his house to lead a buyout of
British Petroleum’s chemicals business.
From there, he would go on to found Ineos, the chemicals giant where he remains chairman and chief executive.
As it has grown into a sprawling empire, the company, which has an annual
turnover of about £45 billion, has become a major UK
employer with more than 10,000 British staff.
One wonders quite what they will make of all this as they dutifully pay every penny in tax to
the Exchequer.
In 2010, Ratclifee spectacularly fell out with the then Labour
government over a £350million VAT bill that Ineos was due to pay HM Revenue
& Customs
Wise old heads among Sir Jim’s staff may be less surprised by his plans.
After all, this isn’t the business mogul’s first run-in with the tax authorities.
In 2010, he spectacularly fell out with the then Labour government over a £350million VAT bill that Ineos was due to pay HM Revenue
& Customs.
Sir Jim asked if the payment could be delayed six months, but was refused.
His reaction was ruthless, taking the company headquarters to Switzerland, another famously low-tax regime, to save Ineos a reported £100million a
year.
He returned to set up a UK headquarters in Knightsbridge – and
take up residence in affluent Chelsea – in 2016,
but only after the Tories had moved to slash corporation tax from 28 per cent to 20 per cent.
Sir Jim is an astonishingly successful entrepreneur
whose business acumen and risk-taking has brought much good to this country.
He deserves to be a wealthy man, but when you have £21billion, do you really need to kiss goodbye to your own country just to
make sure your pockets stay full to bursting?

And there is nothing anyone can do, should a crocodile come within striking distance of
a dog.
Dani Hernandez lives in constant fear for her children’s lives;
malaria-ridden mosquitos swarm her slum shack
night and day, which sits not 50 yards from the blood-filled lake.
The crocodile agreed, on the condition that the following day the two would meet in the midday shade of sacred Ceiba tree to
return the crocodile’s tongue.

Anne-Sofie meeting the then Danish Queen Margrethe II at Prince
Christian’s 18th birthday party. She left her golden stiletto at the palace – although it was not returned to her by the

Welcome to Ice City: Russia plans to build frozen community 1,000 miles from North Pole…
as race for Arctic minerals heats up

Monaco is Europe’s premier tax haven, already home
to a soulless list of mega-rich British celebrities who knowingly choose to pay less than they could and should towards
schools, roads and hospitals in the country of their birth.
Such figures are presented, in the cartoonish rhetoric of
the Left, as a damning indictment of the capitalist system
– proof that the super-rich are an exploitative, out-of-touch elite with no regard
for ordinary people and no gratitude for the opportunities given them in the United Kingdom.
The tragedy is that Sir Jim Ratcliffe ought to be a shining
example of all that is best about aspiration.

As a council house boy who grew up to be Britain’s richest man, he embodied the meritocratic ideals of a

AMERICA’S INTERNET ADDICTION
One-fifth of all Americans reported to being on the internet ‘almost constantly’, with young adults making up the largest percentage of
this category.
The majority of Americans – 73 per cent – indicated that they

A Pew Research Center survey collected data from

Americans are constantly logging in.
Young people are the most connected; the study found that 36 per cent of people ages 18 to 29
are online almost constantly, and 50 per cent go on several times per day.
Teens and adults were found to share similar internet habits, with 24 percent of
teenagers reporting almost constant use, and adults coming in at a
