For my hybridity self-portrait, I chose to draw inspiration from Nam June Paik, as I believe that technology, especially social media, has become inextricably linked with my identity. Consequently, I chose to make my hybridity self-portrait a triptych, with each triptych centering around a photo I have posted to Instagram. Although I don’t post on Instagram very often, the photos that I do post are the “perfect” representations of me. Like a photograph, they are flat and 2-dimensional, only showing the version of myself I want others to see. However, these moments of perfectness are disrupted by the photos surrounding it: attempted shots that are deemed unworthy due to “imperfections.” I wanted this portrait to remind me that although I might try to erase them online, these imperfections are still a major part of my identity.
