My idea for this soundscape was to capture the process of playing a musical piece for the first time, or sightreading. It took a little bit longer than I anticipated, but I was able to capture the rawness of playing the piece that I had heard before while stumbling on some of the notes. The tempo is very uneven because of this, and those who have also heard the piece before (Ravel’s Prelude in A Minor) will spot notes that are flat-out wrong. I think it does an interesting job of telling the story of a piece of music played with flaws, yet still ultimately performing the same basic ‘story’ of the piece itself, despite the errors.
