My project is supposed to speak to the Lori Vallow case-but I have also been influenced by other individuals like David Koresh and Keith Raniere. Religion has been and still continues to be a pillar of morality and guidance for many people and communities but I wanted to address the problem of religious extremism and the abusive characteristics of the institution-more specifically within certain individuals who feel as if they have a “special” connection with God that surpasses the relationship that any other citizen would have. Individuals that deem themselves as prophets or vessels on earth to enact what God has commanded them to do, has always been a fascinating topic to me. My illustration shows praying hands with the emphasized words, “GOD” and “ME”. I wanted to speak to that relationship that “everyday” extremists (excluding bigger figures like the Pope) claim they have with God, that they’re elevated above any other religious persons because God is speaking only to them.
