I wanted my art piece to highlight the issues surrounding abortion rights. While abortion in itself is a way to help sexual assault victims (including rape, molestation, and incest victims) as well as domestic violence survivors, it has many more layers. It cannot be seen as a replacement for adoption or the foster system. These systems are already broken and overwhelmed, so adding to them won’t solve anything. Denying care to mothers who need a D&C is potentially killing two when one can be saved. And once these children are born, looking past the lack of support for adoption/fostering, the government does not care about them. Denying trans kids affirming care, loose gun laws, little maternal support, lack of support for mental health, the list goes on. But to be pro-life, you must ignore these experiences and flaws in society. So in order to see the pro-life protest in the background, you have to ignore all the other news headlines covering such issues. And all you are seeing behind the news headlines is repentance and murder. When there is much more to this issue than individuals needing to repent because they are murderers.
