I have always felt that my words are a distillation of who I am, more than any photo. I am and always have been a very verbal person so when I saw that the assignment was a self-portrait my first instinct was to go in a literary direction, specifically using an excerpt from something I wrote about growing up and being aware of time passing. I used a combination of traditional and digital collage to put together moments in time as a representation of all the versions of me I had in mind while writing.
