I created this work, which is 6×11 inches, in collage using images of the Palestine conflict, the sea, and weapons sent by the US to Israel, along with paint pens and colored pencils to add decorative effects as well. I wanted this piece to address the hand that America has had in the destruction of the Palestinian people, and inspire US citizens to take action on behalf of those in Gaza. I was inspired by the composition of Zanele Muholi’s self-portraits to make an image with a similar intensity and presence of gaze.
