As we are in an age where anti-trans bills are being passed left and right, I wanted to pay a tribute to those who have lost their life to the hate crime that has been influenced by these bills and Alt-right social media influencers. This piece is in honor of Nex Benedict who recently passed away as a result of injuries inflicted by hate. This is a 2 by 3 foot carefully pinned quilt, where the front presents a pastoral seen of a sun setting over a field and the word “death”. The back is plain and dark with the word “life”. With the inspiration “Let death be kinder than man” as Althea Davis said, I hoped to portray a life after death that is safer and kinder than our current society.
