This drawing I made in procreate aims to capture the depleting oceans and natural biospheres in the Philippines. From extreme overfishing and excessive tourism, many of the natural species such as the coral reefs, native fish, and birds are dwindling in population, as well as the stability of the natural environment due to pollution. I drew a girl who is partially submerged and drowning as a symbol of the fading nature. Her hair flows into eight distinct arms like that of the native species the common Filipino octopus, but also as a mirror of the eight pointed star on the national flag, which contains deep references to the history of the Philippines.
