This recording is inspired by a family trip to Puerto Rico, being from Ecuador it didn’t feel much different from home but somehow magical. I remember the sound of the late-night humid rains, the sound of the coquí (or frogs), and my father talking to my brother in the background as I lay on the hotel balcony. I used the song “Oh Qué Séra?” by Willie Colón mixed with Piero Piccioni’s “Mexican Dream” to create the atmosphere, the sound of the rain and the coquí are actual audio clips that my mom had taken while in Puerto Rico. The cover art is a collage I made that is inspired by the trip with a picture of me and my sister on the actual trip.
