The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is one of many books banned in US public school systems. Thomas’ main message from her novel was highlighting the need for individuals to speak up for injustices, public school systems are ridden with them. The act of banning books undermine artistic freedom and the First Amendment’s right to free speech, while also disregarding the identities and experiences of authors and readers. I took this project as an opportunity to share this issue. The artwork is a rendition of the Hate U Give book cover art with added emphasis in the message of banning books.

In 2025, users are still asking whether z-lib.id is a safe choice. While zlibrary has long been known for offering free academic books, the legality and security of its mirrors remain questionable. Some users report stable access, but others mention blocked domains or malware risks. Since zlibrary operates in legal gray areas, browsing it without protection could expose devices to harm. Using a VPN, antivirus, and avoiding downloads from suspicious pop-ups can reduce risk—but safety isn’t guaranteed. Always weigh the legal and digital risks before proceeding.
