On the WWU campus, students set up an encampment: calling for a divestment from all companies supporting Israel, and university transparency with its investments. Last week, a historic agreement was made when these demands were met. Over 35,000 innocent Palestinian citizens have been killed, and there is displacement and separation of families, an intent to wipe Palestine off the map and make an ethno-state. We have made history here at Western, but an individual’s role in genocide is equally imperative: are you turning your eyes away? For my project, I printed out the collage/drawing fusion above, taping it in a pocket with crude duct tape, left it in the VU, and challenged the viewer to open their eyes to a genocide that our nation still wants to hide.
