For this project, I made a piece that represents the struggle of young artists who compromise their true artistic vision for commercial success, due to the poor job availability and high debt backgrounds for professional artists. It depicts a disinterested artist working on a piece that they know will earn praise, surrounded by colorful, abstract representations of their authentic art. Through the use of color, form, and symbolic elements like bills and receipts, the piece underscores the financial and emotional distress faced by artists in today’s job market, aiming to spark conversations about the value and support of the arts.
