The majority of the fresh water used in Mexico City, Mexico comes from an aquifer sitting under the city. The continued removal of water has led to the subsidence of many parts of the city with parts of the city falling as much as 15 inches annually. This has led to the breaking of pipes which causes the problem to worsen as the city loses 40% of its water to these breakages. This drawing shows this water crisis as an hourglass filled with water and time is running out as the cracks leak water out of the system.
