I was inspired by Wifredo Lam because he uses his art to bring attention to a culture bigger than himself after being an example of how he integrates these diverse influences, combining surrealism with Afro-Cuban spirituality to comment on the social and political conditions of Cuba.

I think that the term African American isn’t something that is representative of the diaspora of cultures that were grouped under it, there is often times no representation from these rich and alive cultures and African Americans do have their own culture and none of us should be misrepresented.
