A brief description of my illustration

Most people in the globe are on the left. The majority of people with internet connections also have access to unlimited amounts of useful and important resources, which enables them to advance in life. Even though it’s sometimes taken for granted, having access to the internet is still considered a privilege and not the norm.

The rest of the globe is in the right, as not having internet access could ultimately worsen their prospects and quality of life, at least in the fast-paced, technologically advanced modern world. Children are at a disadvantage because they cannot access the same resources as the rest of the world without the Internet. This would make them less competitive and present them with greater challenges in life.

Digital inequality

My project illustrated how digital inequality affects the quality of life and the future of those who struggle with it. In case you are unfamiliar, digital inequality refers to the gap between individuals with access to modern information and communication technologies, such as the Internet, and those without. As of 2021, according to the International Telecommunication Union, approximately 37% of the world’s population still lacks internet access, highlighting a significant divide in digital connectivity. This digital divide significantly impacts quality of life, as access to the internet is increasingly crucial for education, employment, healthcare, and social interaction. Without internet access, individuals are at a disadvantage in pursuing educational opportunities, accessing job markets, and obtaining essential health information and services. For example, during the pandemic, many educational institutions shifted to online learning, leaving students without internet access unable to continue their education effectively. Additionally, the Internet serves as a vital platform for social connection, enabling people to communicate with friends and family, access social support networks, and participate in civic activities. The lack of internet access can lead to social isolation and reduced participation in community and political life. Addressing digital inequality is essential for ensuring that all individuals have the opportunity to participate fully in modern society and improve their quality of life.
