You Are(n’t) Enough is a multimedia work focusing on the current issue of colorism that is rampaging through the black community in the United States of America. Using my own experiences of colorist statements directed towards me, I wrote them down, overlapping in the middle of the page to signify the build up of emotions over a lifetime of hearing those words and the negative impact it has. The title of the piece is inspired by the phrase “not black enough” which is often heard by many mixed or lighter skinned people in the community.
