Growing up in America as the daughter of Cuban immigrants, I have always viewed Cuba’s political situation from an outside lens, yet feeling so immersed in it due to my family having to face the hardships firsthand. In 2024, Cuba is facing nationwide power outages and grid collapses, and many news media claim Cuba is nearing collapse. I chose to make this piece from the perspective of a young girl in Cuba, as it could’ve been me, and it was my mother and grandmothers, all struggling with their identities in a struggling country.
