Picture is of me around the time of the 2020 election, aka still during the pandemic. I was at a different college in a different state and was missing my family, but at the same time being where I was, I felt protected in a way. I overlayed two images of different maps, the background with a map of where I grew up and the blanket with a map of where my ancestry is historically from. I drew on my portrait smoke coming out of the eyes to show the feeling of being ‘burned out’ since a couple of months after that I dropped out because of my mental health. This was a difficult time for me, but in the end, it helped shape who I am now as a person. The part of my identity that I wanted to highlight most is where I come from, which has been really important to me as a Navajo person.
