Life can be overwhelming: responsibilities, regrets, loss, and uncertainty can feel like sinking into an abyss. It’s ironic that before we were born – perhaps the most peaceful we’ve ever been – we floated in complete darkness. Suddenly, we had our first taste of air and it likely burned and dried our throats. The sensory overload must have been unreal as we were literally pushed into a strange new world. Now, the same reasons we rejected this environment are what we find comforting: dry, bright, and grounding. We’ve forgotten what our first home felt like. We sometimes we need to remind ourselves that although we don’t remember it, we’ve been lived through worse. When life tries to drown you, show it you have gills and say, “Ah, home sweet home.”
