This piece was made in response to the beginning and the aftermath of the 2024 election. The original event that inspired this piece was the numerous ballot boxes being set on fire and destroying all the votes inside. Presidential candidate Kamala harris repeated multiple times throughout her campaign, “Your Voice is Your Vote”. To represent this I wanted to show the physical “American Voice” being burned just like the ballots in those boxes. Now that the election results have been confirmed we now know that reproductive freedom hangs in the balance and that women’s autonomy lies in the hands of the legislative system. I wanted to represent this through the capitol building physically imposing on my body. To create this piece I took self portraits with my DLSR camera and manipulated them to contain images like the flames and capitol building as well as adding intentionally symbolic colors and a grainy effect inspired by old American comics.
