Eye, Me, Myself represents the conflict between perceived and actual identity, pertaining to both gender and ethnicity. My physical looks are dominated by my Scottish ancestry and feminine appearance, leading others to perceive me as a white woman. However, I am genderqueer, identifying as neither female nor male, and I resonate much more strongly with my Native American heritage than the rest of my ancestry. Surrounded by darkness, my self-portrait shows the fear of judgement and alienation that accompanies expressing my identity, and how despite that fear I will persevere in exploring who I am and where I come from.
