This photo is an example of the decisions we have to make in life. Here, I have my snow gear laid out, ready for a day up at Baker, but just on the other side of the gear is the comfort of the couch. This enjoyable excursion into the mountains still comes with an early morning followed by a physically demanding day, not to mention the hours spent driving to and from. This red-pill/blue-pill situation represents the work we have been putting off, that short-term comfort from taking the easy road out. Whether that means cheating on a diet, skipping a needed workout, or spending too much time on your phone, these cop-outs benefit nobody. I find myself waking up daily, not wanting to get back to doing the hard work, but those goals I had set for myself, those results I wanted so badly, I could very easily lay back down. Instead of taking the comfort of going back to bed, telling myself “I’ll do it tomorrow,” I get up and get it done because there’s no growth in comfort. So come Sunday, I got up at 6:00, drove the one-ish hour there, skied the whole day, drove the one-ish hour back, and only now do I get to enjoy the comfort of the couch.
