In this piece, I chose to represent the ongoing struggle of the kelp forest ecosystem. In the background you can see the healthy kelp forests, which provide a rich ecosystem that support a vast array of species, but in the foreground you can see how many of these kelp forests are being threatened through climate change and it’s effects, one particularly damaging effect is the loss of predators to sea urchins, which when left unchecked can completely consume kelp, destroying the entire ecosystem. Luckily, there is still hope, I depicted a sunflower star eating a sea urchin in the midground, as sunflower stars are one of the urchin’s predators, and their populations have been improving after taking a massive hit due to sea star wasting disease. Also, I’m sorry for the weird low image quality, I’m not sure why that’s happening, I tried exporting multiple different ways and each one had the same result.
