This piece threw me for more loops than a new-age rollercoaster. The problem I chose was a recently rejected levy for the elementaries near my home town. The levy was a continuation of an act that gave funding to these schools to support everything from the teachers to sports and clubs. However, as mentioned, the levy was rejected, so everyone at that school unfortunately will receive even less money for things they barely had enough money for to begin with.
Basically, I wanted to capture the feeling of emptiness. Within the composition, the viewer can see an advertisement for a club that was suspended due to lack of funding. To mirror that feeling, he chairs are askew and the games on the table are untouched.
The cherry on top is the botched perspective. The table is a little bit wonky, and the chairs are at an odd angle. To me, this gives the whole piece that last bit of cheap-abandoned look, and that’s intended.
