This is a watercolor, marker, and colored pencil piece I made to display what it felt like for me to reflect on participation in performative activism in the past. I and others have ridden the “wave” of revolting against abuses of power, only to spend not one ounce of energy on solving the problem we claim to care about. The people in the background of the picture, wade around for a wave of their own to ride. It was only when I began life as an adult that I decided to truly care for the causes close to my heart, I now find peace and power in physically serving the communities I want to support.
