This piece addresses my feelings of helplessness when it comes to the destruction of our planet and our rapid progress towards extinction. Although I try to be as environmentally conscious as I can, I am increasingly made aware of the insignificance of my efforts compared to the large corporations and greedy 1% that continue to drain the Earth for money and status, while displacing and depriving it’s helpless inhabitants. The depiction of an angel-like being sitting complacently in front of a wounded creature represents how intention is not the same as action, and although many people would agree that our planet needs saving, it is difficult to put those thoughts into practice, but easy to get swept up in the guilt and frustration. I will admit this piece is mildly contradictory, because although I did not buy new materials to make it, the supplies used are not exactly sustainable—however I am working on using more eco-friendly approaches in my future work.
