The new presidential administration is actively preventing transgender and queer people from accessing life-saving medical care. Although trans healthcare and people have always been under attack, the new executive order put into action by Trump exacerbates and speeds up this agenda. The executive order, titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation” uses disgusting language and demonizes queer folks under the guise of protecting children. For my project I wanted to juxtapose the language used in this executive order against the joy and belonging that trans people feel when they present the way that they want to – often through medical avenues such as gender affirming care.
