I chose to make a digital self-portrait that portrays me during COVID and quarantine on the left side and me right now on the right side. The left side is in black and white, with words that encapsulate the struggles that I felt during the pandemic, and icons of scribbled thoughts to represent that my identity felt hidden away. The camera-off emoticon represents the hold zoom had. On the right side, which is in color, I added a graphic of a face mask over my face, with many of my interests (knitting, working out, travel, love, music, and psychology) around me to show the lasting impacts COVID has had on our society, and peoples’ ability to connect, despite quarantine being lifted for 6 years now. Post-pandemic, it is harder to be vulnerable with others because our society has turned to a primarily online one, and people’s true identities are masked by how they present themselves on social media.
