I was inspired by Aaron Siskind’s black and white photography, the way that his detail shots and lack of color abstract the everyday things he photographs. The title of the piece (Rebirth) is inspired by the way Pollock titled his pieces. Rather than literal descriptions, he seemed to title pieces based on the more abstract representations within them. Mushrooms growing on this rotting log are making new life from death, a rebirth.
