“This Queer Bites Back” is a reflection on rising queerphobia in the United States. I was inspired by vintage LGBTQ protest art and posters, especially protest pins and the work of Gran Fury. I focused especially on art with liberatory messaging, art that went beyond respectability politics. As queer people, we should not be passive in the face of homophobic and transphobic violence. Don’t assimilate, don’t grovel, or appeal to the humanity of bigots. Bite back!
