‘Do You Really Care?’ is a photographic piece I made speaking to gun control issues and how these ideals intersect with the war on abortion access. One of the most prevalent topics today is the ideation that life begins at conception, while this is an arguable topic, one cannot claim to care for the life of these unborn fetuses when they grow up to be shot in elementary schools or are left in foster care systems for years. The photo depicts a pregnant mother threatening right-wing ideals while using the very object that they are fighting to keep accessible. While an assault rifle is not being shown, this portrays the same concept. Renee Cox’s moving photograhic work surrounding issues with motherhood greatly inspired this piece.
