Specifically, during the pandemic, I felt shaped by my thoughts. I had so much time to myself that I ended up just ruminating, so I ended up with a picture of myself sleeping, in front of canvases I placed across my floor. I’m sleeping because I feel distracted while I’m awake and sleep is devoid of everything, but subconscious thoughts. I put the canvases behind me to give a physical form to those thoughts, especially since I like to paint the concepts or ideas that hit me. I chose to make the hue of the overall piece purple because it felt the most introspective to me and because in the past the color has been viewed as enigmatic or mysterious, which supports the idea of the rumination happening while I’m asleep.
