For this project, I decided to put my focuses towards repatriation efforts in museums, particularly focusing on the efforts between the British Museum and Greece. For years and years now, the British Museum has been holding artifacts and objects from museums and countries all around the globe, but most heavily effecting Greece. Sadly, the museum has refused to return the artifacts to Greece, where they rightfully belong and should be displayed. Efforts towards returning objects and artifacts to their rightful place has been starting to happen, especially with American institutions. However, it’s a very tricky process that has so much more that goes into it then just shipping the artifacts back over. So in my drawing here, I included two people holding on to a Greek head artifact. And they are kind of fighting over it in a way, like a game of tug of war. The person on the right is wearing a shirt that says British Museum on it and has a thought bubble above their head that has money signs and the words popularity and fame. And on the left, a person wearing a shirt that says Greece on it with a bubble above their head saying. “We just want what is ours!” I used paper and a pencil to create this work.
