The art piece I have created can be accessed through the QR code. The art piece I’ve made is titled “My People”, which is a visual poem that is focused on the 2024 presidential election and what Trump’s term will mean for the LGBTQIA+ community. There is a lot of symbolism I’ve packed in both the poem and the visual aspects of it.

One of my favourite details I’ve focused on is the word “people” and how the visuals change over the course of the poem. At the beginning, the words ‘people’ surround the verses like a DNA strand, showing how we are connected. In the second stanza, the colour of the word ‘people’ is different, to show that the ‘they’ sees us differently than from who we are. The number of people do not change until after the third stanza, which is when the ‘they’ talks about hiding us and erasing us. From then on, the number of ‘people’ that show up surrounding the verses with the people being mentioned lessen and are no longer shaped like an oval around the verse. This is to represent how the ‘they’ is erasing us and how it’s causing chaos and disarray in the community. In the last two stanzas, the number of ‘people’ goes down to one in the last verse of the second to last stanza. Then, in the last stanza, the word ‘people’ is nearly gone, but not completely gone.

There’s so many details that I’ve managed to pack into the poem, both visually and in the poem itself.
