For my project I wanted to highlight the concept of individual culpability in terms of the American recycling and waste systems. While we often choose to believe that our actions in sorting items is enough, the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of the time the recycled objects end up in landfills overseas regardless. I wanted to acknowledge issues of overconsumption on an individual level by collecting aluminum can tabs from myself and others around me. Each was then sewn on to the shirt by hand, following the design pattern I created.
