Mixed and Borrowed

This piece is titled “Mixed and Borrowed” as a play on the definition of hybridity. As a biracial individual, I experience feelings of being mixed and borrowed daily. Being biracial has raised my uncertainty in how I physically present to others around me due to the fact that I am not anchored in a single race or culture. Due to this continuing uncertainty, I was inspired to use the blending of different mediums. In this case, watercolor, colored markers, and black pen were used. The “borrowed” part in this piece comes through when, I personally, view the portrait as I see different features from both my mother and my father in my different features.
