  • The topic that I chose look into and speak about is the increase of violence against women during the pandemic. There are many factors that affect the increasing numbers of domestic violence cases. These include: “increased household, decreased independence, decreased access to supportive services, decreased stress relieving activities, and increased economic burdens” (Covid-19 lockdown and the increased violence against women). This time creates economic burdens that could leave a female dependent on their male partner, making it harder to leave. Perpetrators have become on edge during lockdown and have become more violent toward their partner at home. There are many reports of abuse that was once mental and verbal escalating to physical abuse during the pandemic.This time was described as the “perfect storm for controlling violent behavior behind closed doors” (Violence against women and girls). Most of the stories of abuse I read about were caused by the poverty and unemployment levels the pandemic has caused, as well as increased time in isolation with the partner.
