For this piece I was inspired by the art form of pointillism and I chose to depict the synthetic opioid crisis in America. The CDC states that the amount of people who die everyday from synthetic opioids like fentanyl is 150, so I used 150 stickers to represent each person who falls victim to the crisis. I filled in a portrait with the stickers to emphasize the human aspect of the crisis, as I believe that the people who have fallen victim to the crisis have not been treated humanely.
I used the sound of me typing on the keyboard of my laptop as it’s something I listen to often. The image is part of the stickers on my laptop.
The centipede represents my inner struggles that I live with and the heart is representative of me embracing those struggles as apart of myself.
