Art 109: Visual Dialogue

I chose to do a digital drawing on the writers strike. I drew a claw machine to honor the Toy Story franchise. I purposefully only wanted certain things in color so they would stand out over other objects.

LEARNING TO DANCE

Studio Project: Identity Reconfigured

For this project I used my iPad and the app Procreate to illustrate my artwork.
Just like people, flowers need time to grow and bloom. In this drawing, I wanted to represent nature and beauty from a different perspective. This artwork depicts how I view myself. The blossoms represent my imagination, curiosity, and what I have learned throughout my life. I am imagining that the older I get these flowers and vines only grow and multiply. Although, my other take on this drawing in referencing Covid times includes… how my mind felt, as if it was constantly racing. Being stuck in my home for so long felt as if I was trapped like many others. But more so because I could not do the things I loved as much, such as dance. Dance gave me the freedom and joy to let go when I was experiencing difficult times/struggles in my life. It was a huge outlet that gave me so much strength. Though, being at home restricted my movement and zoom classes felt like a disconnect from the sport. Through the experience, I actively made more time for things that I didn’t get to do as often, I got to draw even more, bake, spend time with family and just learn that it takes time and everything will be alright. It is crazy to think that we are now three years into things and many changes are occurring, but persisting and getting through day by day is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our community.
