I love jokes and my cat. People say a pet looks like their owner, so I added the features of my cat on me and vice versa in a vibrant light pen to showcase that.
Stretching the definition of “self portrait” as a trans person my internal image of myself is very different from how I actually look. “LAVENDER / SEAHORSE / ELEVEN / VINCENT” is a work about epilepsy. The colors to mimic brain scans. The four words hold some meaning to the neurological condition. Lavender is the color for epilepsy awareness, seahorse is the animal, eleven is epilepsy awareness month, and Vincent for Vincent Van Gogh who had the condition. I am borrowing from life.

My identity is represented in this picture as a creation. I believe that I am created by the universe and I wanted to show that in this picture.
For this self-portrait I chose to use my reflection on the backside of a spoon. Spoons, being simple and common utensils, I thought were good representations for the simple pleasures in life. The use of my reflection is representative of the introspection and journey of self-discovery that I’ve been experiencing recently.
