Category Studio Project: Identity Reconfigured

The human body is central to how we understand facets of identity such as gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity. Using the concept of Syncretism/Hybridity – as a state of being arrived through the innovation of mixing and borrowing, students created new representations of the self, formed and shaped in this particular moment of time.

Metaphysics

These photos explore identity as a hybrid of both mind and matter. I am the way that I dress, look, and sound, just as I am my mind, my experiences, and the way that I process the world. I’ve always… Continue Reading →

Oh, Eye See

I used images of eyes I found in magazines to examine the idea of an identity made of commonplace things, a mix of exposure to different people and experiences, yet somehow still existing as a unique entity.

Me, Myself, and I

I draw a self-portrait annually on my birthday. I decided to clip and combine the last three years of self-portraits. Left to right; 2022, 2023, 2024.

My cup of inspiration

Something that I think shapes my identity is how my goals in life, my dreams, my “inner child”, etc. are things that are really sometimes the only thing pushing me forward. So I chose a photo from both this year,… Continue Reading →
