Art 109: Visual Dialogue

Category Studio Project: Woven

WOVEN: Dinh Q. Lê created large scale, evocative images created by hand-weaving strips of photographs using a traditional Vietnamese grass-weaving technique he learned as a child. In this studio project students created an image using the technique/concept of weaving two different images together.

Obsolete

This is an old textbook page and a piece of scratch paper woven together into a checkerboard pattern. This combination shows how both components lose their original purpose over time.

Woven Rainbow

From Dinh Q. Lê’s ideas of hand-weaving strips of photographs, three images were placed together to create a rainbow effect. The clouds are added to symbolize the sky.

Traditional VS Digital

Combining two forms of art to one. I wanted to represent the process I use for some of my art.
