Span 430 – (Viaje)

In Spring 2014 I decided to start my own journey teaching Latin American Film preparing a course on the topic of “travel”: “De viaje por el cine latinoamericano.” I explored the subject in different ways: I decided to visit nine films, one about a continental travel “Motorcycle Diaries” and eight others about travel in specific countries. I also opted for movies that portray live, career or ideals as life trips and addressed the topic of travel inside and outside a country being careful and sensitive to the political, economical, and social topics that appeared in class.

One of the main premises when designing the course was my desire to work collaboratively with faculty in other departments on campus who share research interests on certain aspects of Latin American culture. I invited seven colleagues to present seven of the nine movies. My sincere gratitude to the professors without whose collaboration this effort would not have been possible: Eduardo Engelsing, Larry Estrada, Hugo García, James Loucky, Ricardo López, Charles Patterson and Luis Gonzalo Portugal.
