Fall 2013 / Spring 2016
For this Span 450 I decided to study Cien años de soledad from the Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez. Considered one of the most important novels from the XXth century Latin American literature One Hundred Years of Solitude is the perfect frame to talk about humor and ambiguity in this narrative genre, at the same time that allows to discuss the so called Latin American Literature Boom, the idea of the Real Marvelous and the narrative of the Magical Realism. “100 años de soledad en 10 semanas” was designed to provide the students with enough tools to be able to talk about the novel itself, García Márquez’ writings and XXth century Latin American literature and culture.
