Behavioral Neuroscience Scholarships Available for 2024-2025 Academic Year
Application Form will open on April 2nd 2024.
The Behavioral Neuroscience (BNS) Program is proud to offer several scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need and involvement in the field of BNS, or academic performance (merit) and involvement in the field of BNS. Priority will be given to students who have not received a merit scholarship previously. Students who received a merit based scholarship during the 2023-2024 academic year had an average 3.8 GPA. To be considered for a scholarship, you must complete this application. If you wish to be considered for a financial need scholarship, you must demonstrate financial need by either submitting a FAFSA or WASFA for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Scholarships will be allocated over three quarters (fall, winter and spring). Other allocation arrangements may be made on a case-by-case basis.
The deadline for applying is Monday, May 13th 2024 at 5:00pm
Eligibility:
- Be accepted into the Behavioral Neuroscience Program. Pre-majors can apply if application to the BNS major is being considered Spring Quarter 2024.
- Must be enrolled full time to maintain scholarship during Fall-Spring 2024-2025.
Financial need applicants must:
- Have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) for the 2024-2025 academic year
We recommend working on your four essay questions in a separate document then copying them into the appropriate field. For each essay question, please limit your responses to less than 1500 characters (includes spaces).
- Describe your involvement in activities related to BNS at Western. This may include research (list any conference presentations and publications), internships, NeRDS involvement, Compass 2 Campus, and volunteer work.
- Provide a brief statement regarding your educational and career goals.
- Explain how this scholarship will aid you in your goals described above, and how this scholarship will enhance your experience at Western.

Barbara Ellen Maguire- Veith Family Scholarship – CHSS
This scholarship was established in 2015 by the Veith Family to provide support for students who have a demonstrated financial need and are pursuing academic work in research, internships, or summer projects in the behavioral neurosciences, health sciences including pre-medicine, or computer sciences. This scholarship is awarded in alternate years by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (even years) and the College of Science and Engineer (odd years). The typical award amount is $3,000. The Department of Psychology is offering scholarships for current WWU undergraduate and graduate students who will be attending Western in the 2023-2024 academic year. Applications should be submitted through this Canvas site (the application can be found in the “Assignments” page). These scholarships will be applied to the 2023-2024 academic year. Scholarship winners will be notified via email in late May/early June.
