Scorpius

Name: The Scorpion || Size: 497 square degrees || Brightest star: Antares || Best Viewed: Northern Hemisphere from July to August
[Music Lyrics] || Scorpio

Verse:

It is easiest to trace you

When the air is warmer

‘n the world is a different hue

Your elegant brows are defined

By flashy astral gems

Everything perfectly aligned

Chorus:

From pedipalp to aculeus

You’ve caught me by my achilles (yes)

Oh, darling, won’t you stay the night?

The sun is gonna melt me down

So take me from this old boom town

Just stay here for tonight.

Verse:

Horoscopes ain’t got your type

Scarlet, rust, dusty mars

Isn’t quite your typical hype

They try to pin you on a wall

You try to shake them off

Causing you make the sky fall

Chorus:

You haven’t ever lost your sting

In my sky you always reign king

Oh, just stay on through the night.

Groups of hydrogen consumers

Don’t like how you spread rumors

For me, can’t you stay the night?

Reflection ||

For this song, I wanted to address the horoscopic side of the zodiac constellations. The first part of the song is more about the conditions you can find Scorpius in. Scorpius is best seen in the summer, and easily identifiable because of the arch of the head of the constellation.  I then used the anatomy of a scorpion in the chorus (pedipalp and aculeus) and the description of the desert town to drive home the warm summer imagery. Later in the song, I get into some of the features of Scorpius and the zodiac, including their lucky colors (scarlet and rust) and how Scorpios are known for being gossips and rebellious in nature. In the end, I just used the features of the constellation to create a person that embodies Scorpius to write about. Having this sort of Scorpius-based muse made it much easier to write out a song about it.
